Who is in front of the camera
In front of a camera there is no audience carrying you. That takes practice.
I am Felix Uhlig, a host for over 16 years – on stage and in front of the camera. It is the same profession and still not the same craft.
In a room I can see whether a thought lands. In front of a camera I see a lens. No nodding, no laughter, no response – and it still has to sound like I am talking to one person. On top of that: a director in my ear, a teleprompter in my eyeline and a time slot that has to be right to the second.
Live or recorded, in a studio, a hall or on a trade show stand: I bring script, technology and timing together without it showing in the footage.
In front of a camera there is no applause to steer by.

A segment has a time slot, and that is not a suggestion. I hit it – without rushing and without swallowing words at the end.
Interviews that go somewhere.
People are more nervous on camera than on stage. I take that off them, genuinely listen and follow up instead of working through a list.
Technology is not a foreign language.
Teleprompter, IFB in the ear, green screen, multi-camera direction: I know the workflow and do not hold it up. And if you have no studio – I have one.

What editorial teams and production companies ask me before a shoot.
It depends on the shooting time, the preparation and the format. A day of interviews with eight guests is a different job from a product film with three sentences. Tell me what you want to make and you get a concrete offer.
Yes, and just as well without. With a prompter every word is exact; unscripted sounds more alive. The format decides – a product film with precise wording calls for the prompter, an interview never does.
Yes, in Hamburg: 4K camera, green screen, RODE microphones and a 300 Mbit/s line. That covers recordings and live links without anyone having to travel.
Yes, at native level and without an accent. Many productions are made in both languages at once – we shoot each passage twice rather than dubbing later.
On stage the audience carries you. On camera there is no response, but there is a frame, a director in your ear and a slot measured in seconds. Someone who only knows the stage comes across as too big on camera. Someone who only knows the camera does not reach the back rows.
If you want, yes. You supply the content and the message, I turn it into words that work when spoken. Written German and spoken German are two different languages.
Yes, across Germany and internationally. Studio, factory floor, trade show stand or location shoot – the place changes the preparation, not the task.
Yes. A live broadcast gives you no second take: if a clip fails to start or a guest is missing, the gap has to be filled straight away. That is exactly the difference between reading out and hosting.
